Flap Wheels

By Jacob Malherbe, QuickWood USA · Last updated July 16, 2026

A flap wheel is a cylinder of overlapping abrasive cloth strips mounted around a hub. When it spins, the flexible flaps wrap around curves, profiles and edges, sanding shaped wood evenly where flat pads and belts cannot reach. QuickWood has manufactured flap wheels in Denmark since 1975, and the wheels sold here are the same OEM consumables that run inside QuickWood brush sanding machines in professional shops worldwide. Common Questions

What sizes do flap wheels come in?

Small wheels mount directly in a hand drill; large wheels run on a bench motor, spindle or table sander. Pick by workpiece size:

SizeMounts onTypical work
2" drill-attachedHand drillSpindles, coves, tight curves
4" drill-attachedHand drillFurniture parts, distressing
2"x10" wheels to 12"x10" wheelsMotor, spindle, table sanderRepeat work, larger parts
How do I choose the grit?

Coarse P60 to P80 strips and shapes, medium P100 to P150 smooths raw wood, and fine P180 to P320 sands between finish coats. Every grit is stocked as replacement flap strips, so one hub serves every stage of a project. Full details with examples are in the grit guide.

Are the hubs reusable?

Yes. QuickWood wheels use a segment hub system: when the abrasive wears out you replace only the flap strips, not the wheel. Hubs, flanges and spindles are all sold separately, so a wheel bought today stays in service for years.
